Here’s what I love about business… the sense of achievement & fulfillment of a job well done, serving my clients well, working with smart, inspired and committed people, generating prosperity, helping leaders realize their vision, designing services and products that work, helping build and strengthen companies, creating opportunity for others, learning new things, moving through challenges, improving the way things work, becoming better and surprising myself.
Business is the amazing container where all these vital things get to happen. From an early age I recognized the potential that work and business invited. When I entered the work world, however, I was surprised by how much got in the way of the good stuff. It didn’t make sense initially, but over the years the reasons became clear.
There is no question that the world of business is a dynamic world and that much is outside of our control. But the more important reality to comprehend and actualize, is that so much is within our influence. Business leaders have the opportunity to generate enormous influence on the internal aspects of the company and the people that work there. Leadership can energize and inspire, connect and activate. That is the real potential of business leadership.
For over thirty years I have observed and influenced the internal realities of companies as a worker, a leader, a researcher, an innovator and an advisor. Through these experiences, I know there is more that can be accessed and activated; more than most companies can even imagine. It all lies within the people that show up to work everyday. If a company is not tapped into that singular resource, they’re missing out…big time.
The most important asset any company will ever have is the energy, spirit and contribution of the people that work there—beginning with leadership and moving through the entire company. The work that I do is to help leaders lead better and effectively catalyze that energy, spirit and contribution both for themselves and in others. That, I am certain, will be what separates the old, tired companies from those that move powerfully into the future.
If you desire to move yourself, your company and your people powerfully into the future, we are committed to helping you get there.
Meet KarenIn my work with small, mid-size and large companies in the healthcare, legal, financial and software domains, there has been a common thread among them all: the people. Businesses are made up of people working together for a common goal. The more thoughtfully those goals are articulated, shared and ascribed to, the more everyone profits, literally.
I became cognizant of the effect of a thoughtfully-aware business on the people who work there during my tenure at an exemplary mid-sized company. The company treated its people as one of its most valuable resources. Everything we did there at all levels of the organization had purpose and intention. Everyone knew the mission, values, and strategic goals of the company. Everyone felt empowered, engaged, supported and a part of achieving the company goals. In fact, everyone was rewarded for that acheivement. Productivity and profitability at the company soared.
I also saw the opposite effect in large, siloed corporations where territorialism and control flourished. Turnover was high, and the waste of time, money and resources in those organizations was astounding.
